Books i grew up with

I went to a brand new school which was just built the year that i started there, we didnt have  such a thing as library until around 7th grade.  But still our school tried to encourage good reading habits in us, in all ways possible.  I remember how we were asked to read an English newspaper everyday, and we had to write up news highlights everyday. Thats how i was introduced to Indian Express and The Hindu, both very good and unique in their styles, but i always had a thing for “the Hindu” because of their supplement edition that came once a week called “young world”, it had so many things i loved!!  Our school also gave us a 30min reading period where we just sat down and read, while the teacher in charge stared us down if we lifted our head up from those books!
We were also asked to bring, whatever books we had at home and we shared it with our classmates.  I think i brought a “twinkle digest” :) Then later on, as the school started having a small collection of different books which was donated mostly from students and teachers, we got to have a more wider selection during our reading period.  As we had enough books to fill a small book shelf, our school hired a librarian.  He was there to help us recommend books and answer questions, and now we were allowed to borrow books for a week after signing his log.  Being a nerd, i still remember how exciting it was when we were finally allowed to take those books home!!

These are 3 of my top favourite books i grew up with…

In my neck of the woods

" To know the road ahead, ask those who are coming back" -Chineese proverb

30 days as a freebird

As a freebird, without any mental agony…no deadlines to meet or an exam to study for!!  I was starting to forget how it felt like to sleep all i want and to have some “me-time”.

When i first got done with finals, i actually didnt even know what to do with my free time..i mostly just caught up on all my lost sleep during the semester..decluttered my room…caught up on some tv shows…got to spent lots of time at home with family…did my share of baking and burning…got to get back in touch with some friends..it felt awesome :)

I just wanted to take a moment to cherish this feeling…because i know i will miss this and its going to seem so distant in few weeks.

After this semester i will be done with the hardest year in pharmacy school (according to upperclassmen).  My fall semester had its share of ups and downs, but i got through it somehow with Gods grace.

One thing i learned after starting graduate school was to let go of my grades…the teaching assistants are probably sick of grading on top of their own coursework and seems to grade with a lot of wrathful intentions!!  I had to keep telling myself that “its not about the grades we make, its about the things we learn

Another quote that i have posted on my wall is something i heard Sachin Tendulkar mentioning in an interview after we won the world cup..it stuck with me for some reason “Results and consequencs i cannot guarantee but true effort i can”..he always plays his game by giving 100% but sometimes we lose and sometime we win, there are lots of factors outside our control that determine these things but “true effort” is in our control and when we give that..there is nothing to regret!!

Another verse from bible that i love to look at everyday..it gives me lots of strength ”But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

Let it shine!

"Light is the first of the painters.  There is no object so foul, that intense light will not make it beautiful" - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Tangled is such a cute movie....i laughed a lot watching it :))...me wanna see it again and hear the songs again!!

I loved this one the most...
I see the light

‎"Now I'm here suddenly I see standing here it's all so clear I'm where I'm meant to be..."
All those days watching from the windows
All those years outside looking in
All that time never even knowing
Just how blind I've been
Now I'm here, blinking in the starlight
Now I'm here, suddenly I see
Standing here, it's all so clear
I'm where I'm meant to be

And at last I see the light
And it's like the fog has lifted
And at last I see the light
And it's like the sky is new
And it's warm and real and bright
And the world has somehow shifted
All at once everything looks different
Now that I see you

All those days chasing down a daydream
All those years living in a blur
All that time never truly seeing
Things, the way they were
Now she's here shining in the starlight
Now she's here, suddenly I know
If she's here it's crystal clear
I'm where I'm meant to be

And atlast i see the light
And it's like the fog is lifted
And at last I see the light
And it's like the sky is new

Rapunzel & Eugene (Flynn):
And it's warm and real and bright
And the world has somehow shifted
All at once, everything is different
Now that I see you, now that I see you

Rodeo 2011

After being in Houston for all these years, finally got to go for the rodeo yesterday!!  It was a much deserved break after the stressful week!!  And then went to the LADY ANTEBELLUM concert!!!!!!!   I actually had never heard about this band before, few of my friends are big fans of them and they burned me a CD with all their songs and made me watch their music videos.  I think i am starting to fall in love with some of their songs!!  And now have a new found respect for country music !!

This is one of my favorites from their collection...lovee the music and the video theme!!

Some baking fun..

It was our pre-semester baking day today.

In everything give thanks...

Tomorrow will be a little different thanksgiving for our family, we wont be doing any of the usual turkey gobbling, instead will be painting and changing tiles at our new house.  We will be moving there by the end of December.  All i can say is thank god for all his blessings.

Sunshine quote:
"Have patience with everything that remains unsolved in your heart. Try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books written in a foreign language. Do not now look for the answers. They cannot now be given to you because you could not live them. It is a question of experiencing everything. At present you need to live the question. Perhaps you will gradually, without even noticing it, find yourself experiencing the answer, some distant day...."

Care much?

‘Survival of the fittest’, that’s pretty much the motto of the world as we know it.  Just a thought, how would it be if we change it around a little and give a new motto “One for all and all for one”. A society based on community and fellowship rather than individualism.  No man is an island after all right.

Growing up in a little town where everybody knew everybody, it was very hard for me to cope with a world where you are forced not to rely on anyone.  You should be able to survive without any support system.  While I do believe that this system will make you a stronger person.  And its the safer option, to stay away from others business.  I am still left with the thought, cant we all care a little more?

It sounds simple, but take it as a life challenge.  Maybe ask someone, a colleague, classmate, relative, a cashier, receptionist, just someone you see today, if they are ok.  While walking through a hallway in office/school, don’t just try to ignore the person walking in your direction, how about just flash that smile.  If you see one of your colleagues/classmates sitting by themselves in the school/office cafeteria, try to sit with them or offer them a seat near you, let them join into your conversations.  When there is a colleague/classmate sitting alone in their seat during break time…ask them the magic question “Are you ok”.

This might sound simple (and maybe even cheesy) but it will mean a lot to someone who is going through some rough patches.

Apparently, yesterday (October 7th) was ‘are you ok day’!!  It is a mission that was started with the aim of reducing the number of suicides.  According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, on average there is a suicide that happens every four hours.  Most of these cases, are caused because of feelings of isolation and depression.

So why not? Lets care a little.  We all have the ability to change this world, one life at a time!

Spread the love, leave no one behind.

PS:  Btw I was saving this for my Nobel Peace Prize speech last year, then they gave it to Obama!!
PSS: There is always next year for sure
PSSS: So Are YOU ok?

Sunshine quote:
If you see someone without a smile, give them yours :)
